The decision was approved by the University Senate at an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to consider arrangements for the commencement of the new academic session. In a memo signed by the University Registrar, Amb. Gabriel O. Egbe, Ph.D., the institution announced that the new date applies to all students of the university. According to the Registrar, the extension is necessary to enable the university to host the NYSC Batch C Orientation Course within its premises.
