Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Postgraduate programmes of the University of Abuja for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.
General Requirements
- All applicants must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant O'Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB.
- Programme-Specific Requirements
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
- A university degree with a minimum of Third Class or a Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least Lower Credit.
- Master's Degree (MSc, MA, MEd, etc)
- A relevant Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division). For specialised programmes like Financial Economics, a minimum CGPA of 3.00 is required.
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- A relevant Master's degree with a minimum weighted average score of 60% (Grade B) or 3.50 CGPA.
- PhD candidates must also submit a research proposal of not less than 500 words.
- Specialised Programmes
- Professional and health-related programmes (like MPH) requires specific, relevant professional degrees (eg., MBBS, BDS) or clinical work experience.
- A prospective applicant must have evidence of completion of National Youth Service or certificate of exemption/exclusion.
Application Process
1. Apply Online: Visit the University of Abuja Postgraduate Portal at https://portal.uniabuja.edu.ng/apply_now.php to initiate your application.
2. Application fee of a non-refundable fee of twenty thousand, five hundred naira (N20,500) must be generated and paid via REMITA through the portal.
3. Transcripts: Applicants should process a Transcript Request Form (Form A2) via the portal and ensure official academic transcripts are mailed to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, or via email to SPGS@uniabuja.edu.ng
4. Admission Requirements for PhD
Candidates for the PhD programme in Animal Science must possess Five (5) O'Level Credits in Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Geography/Economics and at least a pass in Physics in addition to the following:
I. 60% or above weighted average or 3.50 CGPA in the MSc programme of Animal Science at the University of Abuja or any other recognized institutions and show satisfactory potential for research are admissible to the PhD. programme.
Duration of the Programme
The Department runs a Full-Time programme for a minimum period of Three sessions (six semesters) and a maximum period of Five sessions (10 semesters)
2. Admission Requirements for Master's Degree
In addition to Five (5) O'Level Credits in Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Geography/Economics and a pass in physics. only candidates with BTech Animal Science/Production, BAgric (Animal Production/ Animal Science/ Animal Production and Health) as approved by Nigerian Institute of Animal Science shall be considered.
Also, only applicants with the following are eligible for consideration:
i. Minimum of Second Class Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science from University of Abuja or B. Agric Degree in Animal Science/Production and Animal Production and Health from recognized Institutions.
ii. Third Class Degree in Animal Science from recognized institutions with at least five (5) years cognate post qualification experience.
iii. Candidates with Third Class Degree in Animal Science must obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science/ Production and Animal Production and Health from recognized Institutions.
The Master of Science (MSc) in Animal Science will be by both course work and research, and will run on Full-Time basis. The duration of the programme is as follows:
Minimum of 2 Sessions (4 Semesters)
Maximum of 3 Sessions (6 Semesters)
3. Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Diploma
In addition to Five (5) O'Level Credits in Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Geography/Economics and a pass in physics. Candidates seeking admission for Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science must have any of the following qualifications from Arecognized institution:
i. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Animal Science with minimum of Upper Credit.
ii. Minimum of Third Class degree at Bachelor's level in Animal Science.
The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme shall run on Full-Time for a minimum duration of one session (2 Semesters) and maximum of two sessions (4 Semesters).
In addition to general requirements:
i. All Nursing programmes required a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Candidates must be duly registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
ii. Candidates with Upper Credit Pass in the relevant Postgraduate Diploma would also be considered
